How each feature stores and processes your data

Last updated · October 21, 2026

Scope and operator

Practice Note and this website are operated by SeongHyeok Baek. For privacy questions or to exercise your rights, contact seandeveloper0123@gmail.com.

This policy distinguishes core iOS practice features, Android 1.2.1, and optional features in iOS versions offering accounts, Pro, score analysis and friends. Processing for features absent from your installed version does not apply.

Practice data and microphone

Pieces, movements, tasks, notes, session history, preferences and recordings are kept in the app’s local storage. Core practice features need no account. The developer does not receive your practice notebook or recordings through a server upload.

Microphone access is optional and used when you choose recording or the tuner. Tuner audio is processed live on your device without being saved. Recorded takes remain on your device. Metronome, drone and reference sounds are generated locally. You can withdraw microphone permission in device settings and continue using other journal features.

Online repertoire lookup

The built-in repertoire catalog works offline. Optional online lookup on iOS sends your search text or a selected work identifier over HTTPS to IMSLP and MusicBrainz. These services may receive your IP address, app User-Agent and request parameters. Notes, recordings, practice history, email and app account identifiers are not attached.

Provider access-log retention follows their policies. Use the built-in catalog and offline tools to avoid these requests. The catalog in Android 1.2.1 is included in the app and browsing it does not send search queries to a server.

Optional account and subscription

In iOS versions offering accounts, you can sign up and sign in with email, Google or Apple. Supabase handles your email address (or Apple private relay address), sign-in method and user ID. An account supports online features such as Pro, score analysis and friends; it does not upload your core practice notebook or recordings.

Pro purchases are processed through Apple. The app sends Apple’s signed transaction to the service to verify subscription entitlement. The service keeps subscription status and renewal information linked to your account. Practice Note does not receive payment-card details.

Score recognition and analysis

In iOS versions offering this feature, when you request score-page reading, your selected page images are sent over HTTPS to the Practice Note recognition service on Google Cloud. Images are used only to recognize notes during the request and are not retained.

When you request analysis, confirmed note data is sent to the same service. The service calculates chords, keys and cadences directly and renders the analyzed measures as score images. Scores, notes and recordings are not sent to AI providers or other external services. Results and rendered scores are stored on your device. The service does not retain score images, notes or results after the request ends.

To prevent abuse, the service records only the daily request count for each account.

Optional friends feature

Friends are optional and require an account. Only after adding your first friend does the app share a daily summary: date, total practice time and, if you choose, up to five piece names. Friends see your nickname instead of your email. Tasks, notes, detailed sessions, recordings and scores are not shared.

Turning a sharing item off removes that information from the service, not just from view. Summaries and reactions have a 30-day retention period. Discovery by sign-in email is opt-in. You can remove, block or report a friend and delete your account.

Retention, backups and deletion

  • Local records: Kept until you delete them or remove app data. Delete individual recordings in the app. On iOS, deleting a piece preserves saved sessions and recordings in History. To remove all local data, delete the app rather than offloading it.
  • System backups: Apple or Android backups and transfers may include practice data and recordings depending on your settings. The developer cannot access or remotely remove those backups. Manage them separately in your device or cloud account; restoring a backup may restore older records.
  • Online analysis: Score images, notes and analysis results are not retained on the server after request processing. Daily request-count records used to prevent abuse are deleted through periodic cleanup and account deletion.
  • Account deletion: Use My info → Account → Delete account. This removes the account, request-count records, server subscription records, sign-in sessions and friends information, and revokes Sign in with Apple access. Local records remain separately on your device.
  • Subscription cancellation: Cancel automatic renewal separately in Apple’s subscription settings. Apple’s own retention policy applies to transactions it processed.
  • Support email: Retained as needed to resolve your request; deletion can be requested. Email-provider backups, retention and legal obligations may also apply.

Website, support and providers

This website is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may process operational information, such as IP address, browser details, requested paths, timestamps and connection logs, to deliver, secure and troubleshoot the site (GitHub privacy statement). Our language selection is kept only in the current URL’s lang parameter. We have not added site registration, contact forms, advertising pixels or visitor-analytics scripts. Hosting-platform access/security cookies or logs follow the platform’s policies.

Opening App Store or external-resource links sends requests to those destinations.

Support emails are received through Gmail. Your address, message and attachments are used to respond. Please avoid sensitive recordings or documents unless needed. App exports and sharing occur only to destinations you select in the system share sheet.

Rights, international processing and changes

You may decline optional consent-based features or withdraw consent. Depending on applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or object to processing. Contact seandeveloper0123@gmail.com. Local records must be managed on your device because the developer cannot access them. You may also have a right to complain to your local data-protection authority.

Email, identity and hosting providers may process information outside your country, including outside South Korea. Locations, retention and transfer safeguards depend on the actual service configuration and provider agreements; we do not guarantee an unverified country or retention period. Optional features involving external transfers provide relevant notices in the app before use.

Practice Note does not sell personal data or use it for cross-app/site advertising tracking, and the app includes no advertising or third-party analytics SDK. Android 1.2.1 has no account, score analysis or developer-operated upload service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

We update this policy and relevant in-app notices when features or processing change.
